Read Before You Register

All Registrants will need the following items to register for the Kenneth E. Behring National History Day Contest :
•    Home Telephone Number
•    Home Contact Information
•    Your Email Address (Valid email addresses are required.)
•    Purchase Order Number (if applicable)

Students will need these additional items:
•    Teacher Name and School
•    Chaperone Name
•    Entry Category, Division and Title
•    Names of All the Students in a Group Entry
•    Description of Entry
•    Medical and Health Information
•    Medical Insurance Policy Number
•    Purchase Order Number (if applicable)
•    Contact Information for Local Television Stations & Newspapers (optional)

Registration will close promptly at 11:59 PM on May 15, 2012.


Important Note for Group Entries: If you are entering as a group, each person in your group must register individually. During registration, make sure the other members of your group are listed under your entry in your registration profile. All group members who won at the state level must register for nationals.


Paper Category Entries, Materials for Museum Display, Scholarship Applications
:
Paperwork for the Paper category, applications to display performances at The National Museum of American History Behring Center, and scholarship information must be received in the national office no later than May 15, 2012.

Paper Entries
- Send four copies of your paper and bibliography via U.S. Mail or other delivery service. They must be received in the NHD office by May 15, 2012. Make sure you get a tracking number and conformation information from your delivery service, as the NHD staff is small and cannot research the delivery of packages.

Web Site Entries
- NO paperwork is needed, as your process paper and annotated bibliography must be integrated into your site. Be sure to include your unique 8-digit portion of your web site URL in the "Entry Information" section during online registration. PLEASE NOTE: Web Site entries will be locked for judging at 11:59pm on Tuesday, May 15, 2012. 

Reminder for Exhibit, Performance, or Documentary Entries - If you are entered in the Exhibit, Performance, or Documentary categories, DO NOT send in your process paper or bibliography; bring four copies with you to the contest.


Contest Fees
Each student must pay the mandatory $100 registration fee to attend the contest. All members of group projects who won at state must register and pay for the national competition. NHD accepts school purchase orders for full or partial payment. If your school or any other organization is paying any of your fees, please include a purchase order number when you register. Credit cards can be used to pay online. Checks and money orders are also accepted; please make the proper notations in the system. If you need help raising money, please check with your school, the PTA, or various community groups – sometimes all you have to do is ask. Teacher Fees
- Teachers must pay the $40 registration fee to attend the contest. There are also valuable workshops which are avialable for additional fees.


Other Registration Items
Student, Parent, and Teacher Surveys - These surveys help gather important information for the NHD program. You must complete these surveys as part of your online registration.

Permission to Participate, Media Release, and Waiver of Liability -
You must agree to these statements as part of your online registration.

Medical Information
- Every student registering for the national contest must complete this online form, whether or not they are staying on campus.

Shipping Labels - If you will be shipping items to the University of Maryland for the contest, you must purchase an NHD shipping label during online registration. This label will be generated automatically with the provided name and address of the student. The cost will be added to your total.

On Campus Housing and Meal Packages
- If you plan on staying at the University of Maryland during the national contest, during registration you can sign up for a room and meal package. Packages and rates will be listed within your online registration. The cost will be added to your total.

Congratulations Ads
- If you would like to place an ad or send a congratulations note to a student, teacher or parent in the official NHD contest program, be sure to purchase the ad during the registration process. The cost for each item will be added to your total, for payment online or by check or money order.
